Welcome!

I'm Hannah Beukema, creator of The Recipe Graveyard! I have been collecting old cookbooks, recipe cards, and brand pamphlets for over a decade, with particular interest in community cookbooks and handwritten collections. When I'm not reading through old books or hitting up estate sales, I am a stay-at-home mom with my four kids. I have an undergrad in graphic design, spent four years working at my alma mater's university library, and have six years of corporate databasing experience. All of my cooking and food related knowledge is self-taught. And, most importantly, I love to share what I know!

Why The Recipe Graveyard?

When I first began my cookbook collecting journey, I immediately began to realize that community recipes and family recipes were often undervalued by the people responsible for creating them. This means family members don't always document beloved recipes before it's too late. I made it a goal of mine to preserve and document as many of those recipes as I could, with the intent of connecting people to recipes that were lost between generations. A college friend of mine came up with the name "The Recipe Graveyard" over a decade ago, and it stuck.

Today, I am constantly working to add resources to the site. Why? Because I want you to be able to cook from your grandma's handwritten recipes confidently, since you know you can quickly access the Recipe Terms Glossary if you get stuck. If you've been trying to track down a recipe just like your mom used to make, the Free Cookbook Index has your back and is packed with links to open access community cookbooks from across the world. Or, if you simply enjoy learning fun food facts and expanding your knowledge of home cooking, check out the Blog where I deep dive into the rabbit holes my cookbook reading takes me on.

No matter why you ended up here today, I'm glad you're here and I hope you learn something new. Together, we can resurrect the foods we remember.
